Overview

Katia Alcantar advises for-profit and nonprofit businesses and property owners in real estate transactions, commercial matters, and litigation. She has counseled clients across a range of sectors including broadcast media, retail, and cannabis-adjacent businesses. Her practice includes advocating for clients in state and federal courts, private arbitration, and on appeal.

Katia’s legal advice is informed by firsthand business experience. Having served as in-house counsel at Oregon Public Broadcasting and a technology startup, she understands how organizations function from the inside out and brings that operational insight to every client engagement. She also supports the business community by serving on the volunteer board of a nonprofit organization dedicated to fostering local entrepreneurship.

Representative Matters

  • Represented cannabis-industry investor in breach of contract litigation from inception through summary judgment; obtained full recovery of principal amount, interest, and all attorney fees.
  • Represented a business owner in a breach of contract dispute against co-owners; advanced the claim through litigation and secured a successful outcome on behalf of the client.
  • Defended a trucking company facing $20 million+ in claims brought by multiple claimants; leveraged targeted investigation to undermine the demand, ultimately limiting the company’s liability to a six-figure settlement.
  • Drafted amicus brief to the Texas Supreme Court advancing a position and points echoed in the Court’s landmark opinion that reshaped personal injury litigation practice across Texas.
